How I came to use this powerful toolset.

My days working behind a desk were slowly turning me into a slacker.

I'm an artist. I have a bachelor's degree in visual art, and I had my own art studio for a few years, and then worked in an art museum for a solid decade. I gradually transitioned from hands-on work to the management side of things - think logistics, data, email, inventory, florescent lights, and coffee coffee coffee to stay on task. I started my career with such a drive for excellence, but near the end, my performance suffered. It was hard to focus. I felt guilty sometimes. I didn't have enough disposable income to dine out, take trips, or do other fun things. It wasn't my dream life and sometimes I felt sad, anxious and restless. 

So, I quit.

Just kidding! It was definitely not that simple. It took me six months to move out of that position on good terms, buy and build out my van, rent out my house, and hit the road. 

I was clear that I wanted more financial freedom, time to spend on myself and my dogs, and room in my life for making art! And most of all, to look around and really see the world! I had been diagnosed with glaucoma, and my doctor and I struggled for 18 months to find a medication that worked and I could tolerate without my eyes turning zombie chic. (This is a term I coined that means; so red you might worry I was considering eating your brains.) That is now managed and I no longer fear going blind so intensely, but it was a big motivator to focus on living life in a way that makes me happy.
